Pinyin is phonetic symbol of Chinese language. Chinese people use pinyin to type Chinese characters on the computer because there is no character on the keyboard of computer.
But Pinyin is never used on daily life, such as newspaper, books, TV, textbook ... You will not find any printed Pinyin.
Yes, during childhood of Chinese people, for an example in primary school, students need to learn Pinyin to improve pronunciation. As you know, most of people born outside Beijing cannot speak standard mandarin, they need to use Pinyin to remember pronunciation.
You also need Pinyin to help your to remember pronunciation of mandarin, that's all. |
