| Eighty-year-old Ma Defeng now lives a happy retired life with
his wife in southern China's Shenzhen, taking care of their grandson.
But there is still one person the old man cannot forget. Her name
is Wang Zhihui, Ma Defeng's first girlfriend.
On June 4, with the hope of seeing her again, Ma wrote a letter
to the Southern Metropolitan Daily to ask for help.
Forty-seven years ago, Ma Defeng, who at the time was working
as a reporter in the Guangzhou military area, was introduced to
Wang Zhihui by one of his friends. He fell in love with her at
first sight and they soon started a relationship. But due to the
special period, they didn't make the relationship public until
they decided to get married.
Unfortunately, Ma Defeng's "marriage report" was refused
by his superior, and he had to break up with Wang without telling
her the truth.
All these years, Ma couldn't escape his guilty feelings to Wang
and has tried many ways to find her. He says that he just wants
to know if she is well now.
Ma's first love was a public secret in his family. His wife,
Zhong Dinghua, says she is very supportive to her husband's efforts.
At the very least, there is nothing wrong to care about an old
friend, especially when one is in his or her advanced years. |
