Ecuador is taking advantage of the World Expo to promote investment in its port city of Manta.
Manta is known for its outstanding transportation system which links with major cities in the world, said Jaime Estrada, mayor of Manta, at a press conference this morning at the Expo Center.
Manta has the largest sea port in Ecuador and an international cargo airport, the Eloy Alfaro International Airport. A series of projects are under way such as the Manta-Manaus port connection project, the establishment of an economic zone in the city, an oil refinery on the Pacific coast, and the expansion of its sea port and airport, the mayor said.
Manta is strong in tin fish, textile, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, shipping and coffee industries, making the city a good partner in business cooperation, said Jorge Hidalgo, Ecuador’s consul general in Shanghai.
