Chinese News – Some poetry from Ireland – Chinese Mandarin

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

The Ireland Pavilion introduces people to the country’s poetry. Irish contemporary poet Louis de Paor recited his poems in English and Irish during the pavilion’s monthly Irish Poetry Reading yesterday afternoon.

A four-time winner of the Seán Ó Ríordáin/Oireachtas Award, the premier award for Irish poetry, de Paor has been involved with the renaissance of poetry in Ireland since 1980, when he published his first poetry journal Innti. He is the recipient of the Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Award 2000, the first poet in Irish to achieve that distinction.

As a bilingual poet, he is also dedicated to creating in Irish, his mother tongue. He introduced the history of Ireland to help people further understand his poems.
