Heilongjiang Province yesterday began its week-long culture show at the World Expo 2010 by staging its special folk arts at the Baosteel Stage in Zone B of Pudong site, including local opera “Ballads of China,” Heilongjiang folk songs, daily performances of “China Chant” and “Sound of Nation” as well as the singing and dancing performance “Glamorous Heilongjiang.”
Theme forums on “Green Agriculture,” “Ice and Snow Sports,” “Ice and Snow Tourism” and “Border Trade and Economy” were held yesterday afternoon as part of the week-long celebration.
Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng and Li Zhanshu, governor of Heilongjiang Province, attended the opening ceremony yesterday. Du Jiahao, vice governor of the province, Yang Xiong, executive vice mayor of Shanghai, and Wang Jinzhen, a member of the National Organizing Committee of the Expo and vice chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, addressed the ceremony.
A number of famous Heilongjiang athletes appeared, such as Yang Yang, who won two gold medals in short track speed skating women’s 500 meters and 1,000 meters at 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games, and Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo, who won the gold medal for pair figure skating at 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.
The theme of the province’s exhibition is “Ice and Snow Make Us Unique.” Heilongjiang is famous for its breath-taking winter scenery, sports and the annual Harbin Ice Sculpture Festival which attracts tourists from all over the world. The average annual temperature ranges from minus 5 degrees Celsius to plus 5 degrees.
