Chinese Character – Tow Away

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Introduction:

The streets and roads in China are usually called xx Road (Lù) or xx Street (jiē). Reasons for their names are varied. Some are named after famous persons, such as Zhongshan Road. It is named in honor of Sun Yat-sen. Some roads are named after cities, such as Beijing Road and Shanghai Road in Qingdao. Some got their name from the buildings nearby. The “Ande Road” showed in the picture is just one example, which is called this way because it’s located between Anding Gate and Desheng Gate (the old city gates in Beijing). Lots of streets in Beijing are named in this way.
