韩佳：对啊。这家的主人姓何，

所以人们习惯地把寄啸山庄称为何园。

韩佳：园主何芷刀一生与水和船都特别有缘分。

The owner He Zhidao had life long

ties with water and boats.

芷刀二字的意思就是

The words “zhi” and “dao”

一条装满了香草的小船。

refer to a small boat filled with herbs.

他出生在安徽一个三面环水的地方。

He was born in a peninsula

in Anhui province.

后来又当上了江汉关监督，

Later he became a river superintendent,

几乎天天都和过往的商船打交道。

spending his life around passing boats.

大牛：嗯。没法儿把船运过来。

He couldn’t have a boat in his garden,

只好造一些水的景观了。

so he designed all these water patterns.

韩佳：哎，谁说的。

大牛：你是说，那是船？

You mean, that’s a boat?

韩佳：对呀。那就是何园最有创意的建筑，船厅。

韩佳：这何园建筑最大的特点就是…

The most special feature of He’s

Garden is that

大牛：房子大。

the large houses

韩佳：不是，中西合璧。

are of Sino-Western style.

你看，这玉绣楼就是最典型的了。

Look, the Yu Xiu Building is the

most typical.

以前何家人都管它叫洋楼。

The He family used to call it

foreign building.

大牛：不对吧？

你看，四四方方的院子，

The yard is totally square,

像双层的四合院一样。

just like a double-layered quadrangle.

我看着挺传统的。

韩佳：从总体上看，的确是中国传统的建筑风格。

但是你要是仔细观察一些细节就会发现，
