to illuminate the whole autonomous region.

A flight from Beijing to its its

capital Hohhot

A local folk song goes: “The Chile River

The Chile River mentioned in the song

refers to the Hohhot area of today.

Wang Zhaojun of the Han Dynasty was

汉元帝为了安抚北匈奴

To pacify the Xiongnu tribesmen,

选王昭君与单于结成姻缘

Yuandi married Wang Zhaojun to Chan Yu

在征途上

On her way to the wedding,

王昭君看到远飞的大雁

Wang Zhaojun saw a flock of flying geese,

更加怀念家乡

which made her even more homesick.

触景生情弹起琴弦

The sight struck a chord in her heart

and she started playing her lute.

南飞的大雁听到这悦耳的琴声

When the southward flying geese

heard the music

看到骑在马上的这个美丽的女子

and saw a beautiful woman on horseback,

忘记摆动翅膀 跌落了下来

they forgot to flutter their wings

and fell on the ground.

从此 昭君就得来落雁的代称

Hence, Wang Zhaojun is also known

as Luo Yan.
