Beijing Olympic – Bolt and Powell both in Jamaica’s Olympic athletic squad
World 100m record holder Usain Bolt and former record holder Asafa Powell both head Jamaica’s athletic squad for Beijing 2008.
Bolt ran 9.72 seconds on May 30 in New York, beating Powell’s former world record of 9.74. On the women’s side, Veronica Campbell-Brown, the reigning 100m world champion and 200m gold medalist at Athens 2004, lost out on a spot in the 100m dash with a disappointing fourth place at the Jamaican Trials. But she will still be competing in the 200m and women’s 4×100m relay.
The Jamaican athletic squad for Beijing 2008 includes 27 female athletes and 25 male athletes.
