tributary of the Ili River.

在特克斯河谷的东段

On the eastern section of the

Tekes River,

有一座令世人称奇的县城

there is an amazing town,

八卦城

known as the Eight-Diagram City.

It was built in accordance with

the eight diagrams

of the Book of Changes of the

Zhou Dynasty.

是现今世界上规模最大最完整的八卦城

It is the largest and most typical

eight-diagram type of towns in the world.

After the mysterious Eight-Diagram City,

下一站就是喀拉峻大草原了

the next stop is the Kalajun Grassland.

它距八卦城56公里

56 kilometers from Eight-Diagram City,

总面积达2848平方公里

the grassland is 2,848 square

kilometers in size.

喀拉峻是哈萨克语

In Kazak, Kalajun

意思是肥沃辽阔的黑色莽原

means a fertile and vast dark-wilderness.

联合国粮农组织官员称赞喀拉峻草原

UNFAO officials praised the

Kalajun Grassland

是世界上少有的高山天然优质大草原

as one of the world’s rare quality

natural alpine pasturelands.

每到夏季

In summertime,

Look at that Kirghiz young boy.

玩马玩得多开心哪

How joyfully he plays with his horse!

那是在玩啊 他是在驯马

He isn’t playing at all. He is training

is horse.

可你说他小小年纪

At a young age as he is,

本领怎么那么高强呢

how come he is so capable?

这就叫后生可畏

This is what we call “hou sheng

ke wei”.

又是个成语吧

Is it another idiom?

Exactly.

相传孔子在周游列国的时候

It is said that when Confucius traveled

through all the kingdoms,

在路上碰见三个小孩

he came across three children.

有两个正在玩耍 另一个却站在旁边

Two of them are playing together.

The other one is standing by the side.

孔子觉得很奇怪 就问他

Confucius feels puzzled.

He asks him:

为什么不和大家一起玩呢

“Why don’t you play with them?”

激烈地打闹能害人的性命

“Violent frolicking is likely to

end in the loss of lives.

拉拉扯扯地玩耍也会伤人的身体

Games full of pushes and pulls

also tend to cause physical injury.

再退一步说

At least, the tearing

撕破了衣服也没什么好处

of someone’s clothes isn’t

something good.

所以我不愿和他们玩

So I don want to play with them.

这有什么可奇怪的呢

It’s nothing strange.”

过了一会儿

A moment later,

小孩用泥土堆成一座城堡

the child builds a castle with clay.

自己坐在里面 好久不出来

He sits in it and refuses to come out

也不给准备动身的孔子让路

to give way to Confucius, who is

ready to leave.

你坐在里面 为什么不给车子让路呢

“Why are you sitting inside

to refuse to give way to my vehicle?”

小孩却回答说

The kid replies:

我只听说车子要绕城走

“I only heard vehicles move

around a castle.

没听说过城堡还要避车子的

I’ve never heard a castle should

give way to traffic.”

孔子非常惊讶

Confucius feels surprised

于是就赞叹道

and says admiringly:

你这么小的年纪 懂的道理可真不少啊

“At such a young age,

you seem to know quite a lot.”

我听人说 鱼生下来就会游泳

“I heard fish can swim as soon

as they are born.

兔子生下来三天就能跑

Rabbits can run on the third day

after birth

马生下来三天就能跟着妈妈走

and ponies can follow their moms

also three days after birth.

这些都是自然的事 有什么大小可言呢

All these are natural phenomena.

Age doesn’t make a difference.”

听完这番话 孔子不由地感叹道

Hearing this, Confucius says

emotionally:

唉 现在的年轻人实在了不起呀

“Oh, youngsters today are really

remarkable.”
