Learn Chinese the fun way.
And have a nice weekend of relaxation.
Welcome to this edition of Happy China.
I am the happy Han Jian.
And I am Daniel.
As long as you are happy,
we are happy too.
Be happy in China.
in the last few days since we came to
you’ve appeared in fairly high spirits.
Yeah. After about a year,
we came to Shaoguan again. I’m
certainly happy about it.
I have fond feelings for Shaoguan.
Then please tell our viewers something
I am basically good at expressing
my personal feelings,
but not at summarizing things.
Han Jia is always good at summarizing things.
Come on. Let’s take a look at today’s itinerary.
Being in Shaoguan again, I have no
idea how you’re feeling.
But both Daniel and I feel that we’d like
to see more.
The Yunji Mountain in Xinfeng County
is a scene of lush trees, crystal-clear
streams, birds and flowers.
As one of the few high mountains
it has rich forest and water resources.
The Xinfengjiang River rises right from
the foot of the Yunji Mountain.
The rapid river flows eastward,
为东莞 深圳 香港等地的居民
bringing clear water to residents in Dongguan,
Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Look, the Sandiequan Waterfall
looks like the long hair of an old lady.
The waters tumble down sharply
before continuing their onward journey.
you ought to take some deep breaths.
Do you still have some impression about
this golden chicken?
The Jinjiling Mountain was already a popular
resort during the Song and Tang dynasties.
The rocks on the mountain take a variety of
有孔雀 刺猬 巨龙
shapes, a peacock, a hedgehog, a dragon,
to name just a few.
Almost behind every stone here,
there is an interesting story.
The 100-year-old enclosed Hakka mansion
and the ostrich village are both must-sees.
To know how many tourist attractions
there are here,
you must come in person and have
a visit to Shaoguan.
Han Jia, I find that the ostrich is
full of treasures.
Yes. In the past, Africans used ostriches
as a means of transport.
Their eggs can be made into
And their feathers are also very unique.
Hey, Han Jia,
how about plucking a couple plumes for you?
They’d look nice on your cap.
No. This is the season
when ostriches are shedding feathers.
The bird would look even balder
if you plucked off its feathers.
“yi mao bu ba” (unwilling to give even
a single hair – stingy).
Hey, who is “yi mao bu ba”?
I won’t pluck even a single ostrich feather.
The idiom “yi mao bu ba” has another meaning.
A monkey has died.
His soul arrives at the King of Hell.
The King of Hell asks him what wishes
he has for his afterlife.
“I want to be a human!”
“When I was alive, my owner used
to take me
to the streets to be teased by people.
It was a tough experience.
But look at those humans, they all
live a happy life.
They have tall and big houses to
shelter from wind and rain.
They wear comfortable and beautiful clothes.
They eat warm and tasty meals.
So I want to become a human, too,
so as to enjoy life to my heart’s content.”
“Oh, that’s your wish. Okay.
You did nothing wrong when you
so I can satisfy your wish.
But before that, you’ll have to suffer
a little bit.”
“As long as I can turn into a human,
I can withstand all kinds of sufferings.”
“Okay. If you want to become a human,
you mustn’t have hair on your body.
Attendant, come here and pluck off
all the hair from the monkey.!”
哎呦 我好疼啊 能不能不拔呀
“Oh, I am painful! You’d better stop
plucking my hair.”
“Hey, hey, what do you mean?
‘yi mao bu ba’ (not allowing a single hair
to be plucked), how could you become a human?”
Welcome back to
this weekend edition of Happy China.
I am the happy Han Jia.
And I am Daniel, who has brought here
a piece of happy news.
Look, how pleased he is!
What is it you so happy about?
反正是我高兴 你高兴 大家都高兴的好事
It’s something that will make me, you
and everybody else happy.
Come on. Don’t keep us guessing
No more waiting. I’ll reveal it, okay?
Okay, ladies first.
