我们开始了在宁波周边县市的拍摄
we started filming in some the counties
and cities around Ningbo.
先后到达了慈城 余姚和慈溪
We first visited Cicheng, then
Yuyao and Cixi.
保国寺有着近千年的历史
Baoguo Temple has a history
of almost 1,000 years.
是现今发现的江南最古老
It is the oldest and best
preserved ancient
和最完整的木结构建筑
wooden structure ever found
south China.
它结构巧妙
Of an ingenious structure,
是中国古代建筑史上
the temple is a rare masterpiece
一件不可多得的佳作
in the history of ancient
Chinese architecture.
东钱湖
In the Dongqian Lake area,
有着大量南宋时期的石雕
there are large numbers of stone statues
from the Southern Song Dynasty.
这在中国其他地方极为少见
The scale of the discoveries has been
rarely seen in other parts of China.
通过这些石雕
Through these stone statues,
人们可以更好地了解
people can better understand
南宋的历史文化
the Southern Song history
and culture.
慈城是宁波的历史名镇
Cicheng is a well-known historical town
in Ningbo.
拥有极其深厚的文化底蕴
It has a quite ancient cultural tradition.

the Confucian Temple and
the Examination Hall

The Hangzhou Bay Sea-crossing
Bridge in Cixi
正在修建中
is still under construction.
但是大桥的雄伟气势
But its magnificence
已经可以初见端倪
is already noticeable.
大桥建成之后
After completion, the bridge
将会大大缩短宁波与上海的距离
will greatly reduce the traveling distance
between Ningbo and Shanghai,
为宁波的发展注入更多的活力
providing more vitality for

嗯 这座天下玉苑公园呢
Yes. At Tian Xia Yu Yuan,
the Jade Culture
就是以玉文化为主题的
Theme Park,
玉雕当然多了
there should be of course
many jade carvings.
哎 你知道吗
Eh, do you know,
这里光是一吨重以上的玉雕呢
just for jade sculptures each
weighing more than one tone alone,
就有三十多件
there are more than 30
them here.
而且看上去都很精美啊
And they all look very elegant!
可不仅仅是精美啊
They are not just elegant,
这里有八件作品是国宝
eight of them are national treasures.
所以观看的时候要特别小心
So we must be very careful when
we’re looking at them.
这些玉雕可禁不起碰撞哦
These jade carvings can’t withstand
impact or collision.
哎 说起这个我倒想起来了
Oh, talking about this
有个成语也和玉有关
reminds me of an idiom
related with jade.
好像是什么玉碎
It sounds like what “yu sui”?
宁为玉碎 不为瓦全
“Ning wei yu sui, bu wei
wa quan”.
哎 没错
Yeah, that’s it exactly.
南北朝时期
During the Northern and
Southern Dynasties,
东魏的大将军高洋
Senior General Gao Yang
of Eastern Wei
逼迫东魏孝静帝退位
forced Emperor Xiaojing
to abdicate
自己建立了北齐王朝
and founded his Northern
Qi Dynasty.
虽然当上了皇上
Although Gao Yang became
the new emperor,
但高洋还是担心自己的皇位不保
he worried that his throne might
be insecure.
于是 他下令把东魏所有姓元的
Thus he ordered to kill all
members of 25 families
二十五家直系皇族全部杀掉
of the former emperor’s linear
relatives with the surname Yuan.
消息传来
As the news spread,
东魏姓元的人都很害怕
all people with the surname Yuan
in Eastern Wei panicked.
有个叫元景皓的人
A man called Yuan Jinghao
赶紧召集大家商量对策
hurriedly called together all concerned
to discuss countermeasures.
大家有什么办法吗
“Anybody have a good idea?”
眼下要保命的唯一办法
“The only way to save our lives
就是请求高洋准许我们脱离元氏
is to request Gao Xiang to allow us
to break up with the Yuan clan
改姓高氏
and change our surname
to Gao.”
元景皓坚决反对
But Yuan Jinghao flatly
opposed it.
怎么能用抛弃本宗
“How should we try to
投靠他姓的办法
save our lives by disowning
来保全性命呢
our ancestry and taking up
another surname?
大丈夫宁可做玉器被打碎
A dignified man should rather
be a piece of broken jade
也不愿做瓦器得保全
than be a whole tile!
我宁死也不改姓
I would rather die than change
my name!”
元景皓牺牲了
Yuan Jinghao lost his life,
但他的精神却被人们所赞扬
but his spirit has remained
exalted ever since.
人们用“宁为玉碎 不为瓦全”
People say “he would rather be a broken
piece of jade rather than be a whole tile”
来比喻元景皓高尚的气节
to praise his noble spirit.
“宁为玉碎 不为瓦全”
“Ning wei yu sui, bu wei
wa quan”
这则成语的意思是
is an idiom, meaning
宁可做玉器被打碎
would be rather a broken
piece of jade
也不愿做瓦器完整保全
rather than be a whole tile.
比喻宁愿保持高尚的气节死去
It is used as a metaphor for
choosing to die
也不愿屈辱地活着
instead of living in humiliation.
