我们不仅在广东著名的美食之都 顺德

we not only had a good time

in Shunde, Guangdong,

度过了美好的时光

which is home to gourmet food,

而且还对孙中山先生的故乡 中山市

but also gained more understanding

of Zhongshan City,

又多了一些了解

the hometown of Sun Yat-sen.

说起顺德的美食

Speaking of delicious Shunde dishes,

那可真是让人回味无穷

I feel as if their aftertastes

would remain forever.

无论是品种繁多 口感醇香的小吃

whether the various kinds of

palatable snacks,

选料精细 做工讲究的佳肴

or the exquisitely cooked

delicious dishes,

这碧江金楼啊

The Bijiang Jinlou

是过去这里一户姓苏人家的藏书阁

used to be a private library of

the family with the surname Su.

你看 这里都是用金子来做装饰啊

这太奢侈了吧

Isn’t it too extravagant?

确切的说啊

这些都是贴着金箔的木雕

王羲之是东晋时期著名的书法家

Wang Xizhi is a famous calligrapher

in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

他从小就刻苦练习书法

He starts learning calligraphy

as a small boy.

从不间断

He never stops from then.

由于他的勤学苦练

Thanks to his diligence and

painstaking practice,

王羲之成为了当时最有名的书法家

Wang Xizhi becomes the most

famous calligrapher of the time.

有一次 皇帝举行庆典宴会

Once, the emperor wants to give

a celebratory banquet.

特地邀请王羲之来为他题字

He invites Wang Xizhi to

inscribe for him.

明天 我有个重大的盛典

“Tomorrow, I’m going to hold

a grand banquet.

你来写一个祝词吧

I want you to write a congratulatory

inscription for me!”

遵命 皇上

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

王羲之在准备好的木板上书写起来

Wang Xizhi starts to write on the wood board

不一会儿就写成了

A second later he finishes.

嗯 不错

“Mm, not bad.

果然是当今的大家呀

You’re indeed a great calligrapher

of today.”

后来 工人要在那一块

Later, a workman starts to carve

写了祝词的木板上进行雕刻

the board on which the congratulatory

inscription was written.

当雕刻的工匠用刀刻那些字迹时

But when the workman carves

these characters,

却发现很难雕去那些墨迹

he finds it’s hard to carve away

the ink on the board.

原来 墨迹已经渗透到木板中

Actually, the ink seeped

竟然有三分深

three-tenths of an inch into

the wood.

没想到

“To my surprise,

王羲之写字用笔这样遒劲有力

Wangt Xizhi used his writing

brush so forcefully that

竟能入木三分啊

the ink seeped three-tenths of

an inch into the wood!”

“入木三分”这则成语

The idiom “ru mu san fen”

原意是形容书法 笔力刚劲有力

literally means forceful strokes

in handwriting.

后来 用来比喻文章

Later it is used metaphorically

to mean

或分析问题深刻 透彻
