后来终于打败了吴国
and eventurally defeat the State
of Wu.
吴王夫差只好向越国求和
Wu King Fu Chai has to sue
for peace with Yue.
派人给文种和范蠡送来一封信
He sends an anvoy to deliver a
letter to Wen Zhong and Fan Li.
兔子捉光了
“When there are no more
hares to hunt,
捉兔的猎狗没有用处了
the hounds become no
more useful.
就被杀了煮肉吃
They will be killed to be
stewed and eaten.
敌国灭亡了
When an enemy state
is defeated,
出谋划策的大臣也没用了
the advising ministers will also
become useless
会被杀掉
and will be kill, too.
你们放吴国一条生路
You’d better give Wu a chance
to subsist
也给自己留一条后路吧
and leave a way out
for yourselves.”
文种和范蠡拒绝议和
Wen Zhong and Fan Li reject
this peace offer.
夫差只好拔剑自刎
Fu Chai has to draw his sword
and slay himself.
越王灭掉了吴国
After defeating the State of Wu,
忽然发觉范蠡不知去向了
the Yue king finds Fan Li has
disappeared suddenly.
后来
Later,
文种收到范蠡写来的一封信
Wen Zhong receives a letter
from Fan Li.
信上面写到
The letter reads,
飞鸟打尽了
“When there are no more
birds to shoot,
弹弓就被收藏起来
the slingshot will be put away.
野兔捉光了
When there are no more
hares to hunt,
猎狗就被杀了煮来吃
the hounds will be killed to
be stewed and eaten.
敌国灭掉了
Now that we’ve defeated
our enemy state,
大臣就被废弃或遭迫害
we ministers will be cast
aside or persecuted.
我了解越王勾践这个人
I know Yue King Gou Jian
only too well.
以后 他一定会加害你
Later, he will definitely
persecute you.
你还是快快离开他吧
Leave him the sooner the better!”

不久后 越王勾践猜忌文种
