The former sites of the Red Seventh and Eighth Army Headquarters are in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The former site of the Red Seventh Army Headquarters, which includes the Guild Hall and the Qingfeng Balcony, is located in Yuedong in the east of Guangdong Province. The Yuedong Guild Hall is a one-storied building made of brick and wood and the Qingfeng Balcony is a brick and wooden, three-storied structure. The former site of the Red Eighth Army Headquarters is located in Xinjie Street of Longzhou County, a two-storied brick and wooden building that has been well preserved.

In the summer of 1929, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) sent Deng Xiaoping, using the alias Deng Bin, and Zhang Yunyi, among other, to Guangxi to direct the revolution. In December, the men led troops to Youjiang and formed the command post for the Baishe (hundreds of colors) Uprising Front Committee, with Deng elected as secretary. Having arranged an uprising, Deng rushed to Longzhou County to engage in preparatory revolutionary work in Zuojian for the Longzhou Uprising. On December 11, the troops assembled in the square in front of the Yuedong Guild Hall in Baishe declared the uprising and formed the Red Seventh Army and the Youjiang Workers’ and Peasants’ Democratic Government. Zhang was elected commander of the Red Seventh Army and Deng became the political committee member.

On February 1, 1930, a mass rally was held in Xintiandi Square of Longzhou County and the Longzhou Uprising, which spawned the Red Eighth Army and Youjiang Revolutionary Committee, was declared. Yu Zuoyu was named commander of the Red Eighth Army and Deng served as a political committee member.

The Baishe and the Longzhou uprisings were both famous armed uprisings led by the CPC during the Second Revolutionary Civil War. Later, under the leadership of the CPC, the Seventh Red Army and the Eighth Red Army established the Zuo-You-Jiang Revolutionary Base.
