Cir – Lesson 415

Friday, August 14th, 2009

According to written records and artifacts found in archaeological research, Beijing has a history of over 3,000 years. In the past, Beijing served as the capital for five imperial dynasties: Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing. It is an amazing city with several millennia of history and culture. The glory of the imperial dynasties can still be experienced at the many historical sites in Beijing. The old bricks and tiles still fit together and aid in retelling the legend that is Beijing.

Beijing boasts the world’s largest imperial palace, the Forbidden City. You can now enter into the palace through the gate that in ancient times was only crossed by the emperor himself. One can also visit the Temple of Heaven, where in Ming and Qing dynasties, sacrifices and prayers for a plentiful harvest were offered. If there is still time to explore, the elegantly decorated Summer Palace and countless other wondrous sites await your pleasure.
