韩佳:快乐学汉语,轻松又好记。

Learning Chinese is easy and fun.

大家好,欢迎来到《快乐中国》。

Hi, welcome to this edition of

Happy China.

我是快乐的韩佳。

I am the happy Han Jia.

合: 停。怎么了?

Cut. How come?

大牛:你这礼行的,不够有诚意。

Your bowing wasn’t sincere enough.

合: 不会吧?本来是不错。

Really? I already did my best.

大牛:不过跟它一比就差远了。

You didn’t by comparison with this.

合: 谁啊?就是它。

What? This elephant?

韩佳:憨象施礼。

A bowing elephant.

大牛:你看,这只大象比你有诚意吧。

You see its bowing is much more sincere

than yours.

韩佳:是不错。大牛,你回头看看。

Indeed. Daniel, turn around.

合: 停。怎么了?

Cut, what’s wrong?

韩佳:你这回头可没有它来得帅气。

Your turnaround was as good as his.

大牛:雄师回…回什么?

A lion “hui” what?

韩佳:回眸。眸就是指眼睛。

“hui mou”. “mou” means the eye.

回眸就是指回头看。

“hui mou” means to turn around,

look back.

大牛:回眸都读二声,就是指回头看。

“hui mou”, two second tones, means to turn

one’s head back and look at something.

回眸。

“hui mou”.

韩佳,这里是什么地方?

Han Jia, what place is it?

刚刚到就有大象和狮子来欢迎我们。

We’ve just arrived and there are already

elephants and lions greeting us.

韩佳:没来过吧?这里就是韶关的云髻山。

Haven’t been here before?

This is the Yunji Mountain in Shaoguan.

大牛:云髻山。

The Yunji Mountain.

韩佳,这髻就是指盘在头顶上的头发吧?

Han Jia, does “ji” mean the bun in

someone’s hair?

韩佳:没错。你看,那就是云髻山的顶峰。

Exactly. Look at the top of the

Yunji Mountain.

海拔一千四百多米高呢。

It’s over 1,400 meters above sea level.

是珠江三角洲地区的最高峰。

It’s the highest mountain in the

Pearl River Delta area.

这里一年四季景色分明。

There are distinct four seasons here.

可以用“风花雪叶”四个字来形容。

May I use “feng hua xue ye” to describe it?

Zhèli kěyǐ yòng “fēng huā xuě yè” lái xíngróng

这里 可以 用 “风 花 雪 叶” 来 形容。

This can be described in the phrase “feng

hua xue ye” (wind, flowers, snow and leaves)

大牛:韩佳,注意一下你的发音。

Han Jia, pay attention to your pronunciation.

应该是风花雪月。

It should be “feng hua xue yue” (wind,

flower, snow and moon-romanticism).

韩佳:就是风花雪叶。

It is definitely “feng hua xue ye” (wind,

flowers, snow and leaves).

春赏野花,夏吹凉风。

There are wild flowers in spring

and cool breezes in summer.

秋观红叶,冬踏冰雪。

Red leaves in autumn and snow in winter.

大牛:行,风花雪叶就风花雪叶吧。

Yes, it is indeed “feng hua xue ye”.

可是韩佳,这源指的是?

Han Jia, the source of

韩佳:新丰江源头。

the Xinfengjiang River is famous.

大牛:新丰江的源头在哪儿?

But where is the source of that river?

韩佳:新丰江的源头就在云髻山上。

The source of the Xinfengjiang is right

on top of the Yunji Mountain.

新丰江下游的东莞、深圳、香港等

The drinking water for Dongguan, Shenzhen

and Hong Kong in the lower reaches

居民喝的水都来源于这里。

of the Xinfengjiang River all comes

from here.

大牛:哈哈,找源头这个事我在行。

Hah, hah, I am an expert in locating

rivers’ sources.

没有我大牛找不到的东西。走。

There is nothing I cannot find. Come on.

韩佳:山好、水好,山上的植物也就格外出众。

A nice mountain with abundant water

ensures lush vegetation,

尤其是这一处—蕉风雨韵。

as proved by this scenic spot, known

as “Banana Wind & Rain Charm”.

您看看,青翠的山芭蕉和甜美的山泉

Look, these plantain bananas and

sweet springs

引得无数游人都…

are attracting so many visitors.

哎,那不是大牛嘛?

Is that Daniel?

大牛,你可真会找地方啊。

Daniel, you are indeed good at

finding places.

大牛:韩佳,这里芭蕉翠绿,泉水清澈,

Han Jia, with green bananas and

clear springs,

还真是个好地方。

this is indeed a pretty nice place.

我找到这新丰江的源头容易嘛。

It wasn’t easy for me to find the source

of the Xinfengjiang River.

赶紧来尝尝。

Come have a taste.

韩佳:啊?你以为这就是新丰江的源头啊?

What? You thought this is the source

of the Xinfengjiang River?

那就错了。这云髻山上像这样的泉水多的是。

You are wrong. On the Yunji Mountain,

there are many similar springs.

你别一看见泉水就以为是源头啊。

Don’t say that the springs you saw

are the sources of the river.

大牛:那我们接着走。

Then let’s go.

Nǐ bié yí kànjiàn quánshuǐ jiù yǐwéi shì yuántóu a!

你 别 一 看见 泉水 就 以为 是 源头 啊!

Don’t think that just because you’ve

seen a spring it’s the source of the river.

韩佳:都说仁者乐山,智者乐水。

The saying goes: true men love mountains

while wise men love rivers.

这云髻山是山、水都有特色。

Here, you have both a nice mountain

and clear streams.

大牛:韩佳,别在这里感慨了。

Han Jia, no more exclamations.

这回我是肯定找到源头了。来。

This time, I’ve definitely found it.

Come on.

你看,应该就是那边的瀑布。

Look, it must be the waterfall over there.

思源亭。准没错儿。

Siyuan (source-remembering) Pavilion.

That’s it for sure.

那边还写着饮水思源哪。

And there are even such inscriptions: “While

drinking, don’t forget the water’s source”.

韩佳:不错,这里就是源头。

Sure, this is the source of the river.

那你知道饮水思源什么意思吗?

Then do you know the meaning of

“yin shui si yuan”?

大牛:就是说喝水的时候,

It means when you drink water,

要想到水的来源。简单。

you should bear in mind where it

comes from.

韩佳:饮水思源也是一个成语。

“yin shui si yuan” is also an idiom.

它的意思就是说人在幸福的时候

It also means that people in happiness

不能忘记幸福的来源。

shouldn’t forget what brought about

that happiness.

大牛:饮水思源是说人在幸福的时候,

“yin shui si yuan” literally when drinking

water, we should remember the source,

不能忘记幸福的来源。

is an idiom which means that when we’re

contented, we should remember why.

饮水思源。

“yin shui si yuan”.

Yǐn shuǐ sī yuán

饮 水 思 源

When you drink water,bear in

mind where it comes from.

新丰江之源。

The source of the Xinfengjiang River,

韩佳:这是三叠瀑布,落差有128米呢。

the Sandie Waterfall drops 128 meters.

大牛:瀑布飞泻下来

The tumbling waterfall

就像阿婆雪白的长发一样。

looks like a grandma’s long white hair.

韩佳:嗯,说得好。

Yes, a nice comparison.

这里山多,植被和环境都保护得很好。

In this hilly area, the vegetated environment

is under careful protection.

所以新丰江下游的老百姓

That’s why residents living in the

lower reaches

才能喝上清醇的泉水。

of the Xinfengjiang River can drink

clear water.

大牛:我们每个人都要饮水思源,

Everyone of us should “yin shui si yuan”

一定要好好爱护宝贵的水资源。

and carefully protect our water resources.

韩佳:没错。那好,就让我们在这里

That’s right. Well, we’ve come to the end

结束今天的节目吧。

of today’s program.

大牛:别忘了看后面的赏心悦目。

But don’t miss the following Feast for

the Eyes.

韩佳:也别忘了我们的口号:

And don’t forget our motto:

合: 学说中国话,朋友遍天下。

Learn to speak Chinese

and make friends everywhere.

赏心悦目:

云髻山是广东省级自然保护区

The Yunji Mountain is a provincial-level

nature reserve in Guangdong.

流泉飞瀑 山涧涓涓

With fantastic springs, waterfalls and streams,

处处是自然美景

the mountain is full of beautiful natural scenery.

奇花异草 争奇斗艳

The marvelous flowers and unique plants

vie with one another to show off their beauty,

跟随奔流的泉水

following the spring water

追溯新丰江的源头

and chasing the source of the Xinfengjiang River.

尽享这岭南明珠的山水风光

They make the hills and rivers of the pearl

of southern China more beautiful.

Chinese Conversation – lesson 518

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Li-an: That’s understandable. I just didn’t know you could do that legally.
Janie: Sure you can. Also, I didn’t really like the whole hyphenated last name thing.
Li-an: Is that where you put a hyphen between your husband’s surname and yours?
Janie: Yeah, then both of you have both last names. But I could never decide whose last name should be first.
Li-an: Hah, that’s funny. In Taiwan, women have both names. For example, I am Ms. Wang, but I am also Mrs. Huang.
Janie: Hey, I like that. Maybe I should do that, too!
