The water in the river is turbid on

one side and clear on the other.

韩佳：这清澈的江水是从西边的武江流过来的。

The clear water comes from the

Wujiang River in the west.

而浑浊的江水是从东边的浈江流过来的。

And the turbid water flows from the

Zhenjiang River in the east.

两条江水汇合在一起就形成了北江。

The two rivers meet here and flow

into the Beijiang River.

大牛：这武江和浈江一清一浊

The clear Wujiang and the turbid Zhenjiang

真是泾渭分明。

are indeed two distinctly different rivers.

在韶关历史上，有一位赫赫有名的镇守大将。

In the history of Shaoguan, there was

a meritorious garrison commander.

你跟他一比，就显得相形见绌喽。

Compared with him, you are “xiang

xing jian chu”.

Nǐ gēn tā yì bǐ jiù xiǎnde xiāng xíng jiàn chù lou

你 跟 他 一 比 就 显得 相 形 见 绌 喽。

You pale in comparison to him.

大牛：你说我什么？

What did say about me?

韩佳：相形见绌。

“xiang xing jian chu” (be far inferior

by comparison)

绌就是指不足、不够的意思。

“chu” means deficiency and insufficiency.

相形见绌这个成语

The idiom, “xiang xing jian chu”,

means that

就是比喻跟另一个人或者是事物相比

by comparison, somebody or something

就显得远远不足了。

is far inferior, or not so good.

大牛：相形见绌比喻跟另一事物相比远远不足。

“xiang xing jian chu” means to

pale in comparison.

相形见绌。

Xiang xing jian chu.

我倒要看看这个人是谁。

I’d like to know who this man was.

韩佳：我说的就是北宋名臣余靖。

He was the noted Northern Song Dynasty

Prime Minister Yu Jing.

你看，这就是为了纪念他而建的风采楼。

He was skillful both with the pen

and the sword.
