一到温泉就跑得无影无踪了

soon after we arrived at the hot spring.

这儿又这么大 还真不好找啊

While the poor Han Jia is looking

for Daniel,

人家都已经泡上温泉了

he has already been taking a

dip in the hot spring.

不如我们跟她开个小玩笑

What if we play a small joke on her

就说大牛在温泉里呛水了

just by telling her that Daniel is

choked by water?

看她相不相信

And guess whether she would believe it.

刚才好像有一个英国小伙子呛了口水

cheng hu”.

在春秋战国时期

During the Spring and Autumn and

Warring States Period,

国家之间经常发生战争

war was frequent between nations.

那时候

At that time,

国与国之间

the crown prince of one country

通常都是将太子交给对方作为人质

would be sent to another country

as a hostage

借此表示自己不会攻击对方

to show that it would not attack

the other country.

有一次 魏国大臣庞葱

Once, Pang Cong, a minister of

the State of Wei,

即将陪同魏国太子

is ready to accompany the Wei

crown prince

到赵国去作人质

on a trip to the State of Zhao, where

the prince will become a hostage.

他担心赵国有人说他的坏话

Fearing that there’ll be people

speaking ill of him

魏王不再相信他

and that the Wei king will not

trust him again,

临行前便对魏王说

he says to the Wei king before

his departure:

大王 如果有人向您禀报

“Your Majesty, if someone reports

to you

街市上出现了老虎

that there is a tiger appearing

on the street,

大王会相信吗

will you believe it’s true?”

我不相信

“No, I won’t.”

如果有第二个人来禀报说

“If there is another reporter saying that

街市上出现了老虎

there is a tiger appearing on the street,

大王会相信吗

will Your Majesty believe it’s true?”

我有些将信将疑了

“I’ll half believe it’s true.”

如果又有第三个人也来禀报

“If there is a third reporter who

says that

街市上出现了老虎

there is a tiger appearing on the street,

大人您会相信吗

will you believe it?”

我当然要相信了

“Of course, I will believe it.”

街市上不会有老虎

“There isn’t any tiger on the street,

这是很明显的事

which is obvious.

可是经过三个人的禀报

But after three people have reported

that there is a tiger on the street,

就好像真的有了老虎

there would seem to be a real

tiger there.

现在赵国比这里的街市远了许多

As the State of Zhao is far more

distant than the street here,

议论我的人恐怕不止三个

there might be more than three

people who will speak ill of me.

希望大王明察呀

I hope Your Majesty will judge correctly.”
