Huizhou is situated in southeastern

Guangdong Province.

南临南海大亚湾

To its south are the Daya Bay

and the South China Sea.

毗邻香港与深圳

It is close to Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

The Dongjiang and Xizhi rivers

横贯惠州市中部

flow horizontally across the

center of the city.

这座历史文化名城资源丰富

The historical and cultural city is blessed

with rich natural resources

and numerous scenic spots.

惠州的西湖在历史上

The West Lake of Huizhou was

known in history

曾与杭州西湖 颖州西湖齐名

to be on a par with the West Lake of

Hangzhou and the West Lake of Yingzhou.

It consists of five lakes, six bridges,

七山 十六景组成

seven mountains and 16 specific

scenic sights.

The time-honored towers and pavilions

are half concealed in lush trees.

The visitor can find scenic sights anywhere

when strolling along the lakeside.

Mt. Luofu, known of its natural beauty

and sites of historical interest,

山势雄伟挺拔 风光清静幽秀

stands imposing and towering

over the lakeshore.

是著名的避暑圣地

A famed summer holiday resort,

更有云仙洞府和蓬莱仙境的美誉

the mountain is also billed as the

abode of immortals in the clouds.

山上寺观遍立

Buddhist and Taoist temples can

be found all over the mountain.

鼎盛时有九观十八寺之多

During its heyday, there were as many as

nine Taoist temples and 18 Buddhist temples.

历史上道士僧人如云

In the past, it attracted a slew of Taoist

priests and Buddhist monks

文人墨客纷至

as well as numerous writers and poets,

留下许多珍贵的佳作和题刻

who left many valuable poetic masterpieces

and carved inscriptions.

What is this called?

叫捷足先登

It’s called “jie zu xian deng”.

“捷”是什么意思

What does “jie” mean?

就是快啊

It means fast.

这人要是腿脚利索动作快

If someone is nimble-footed,

想来晚都难哪

it’d be difficult for him to be late.

哎呀 没办法

Oh, I can’t help it!

这人哪 要是骄傲自大

If someone is over-conceited,

连不吹牛都难哪

it’d be difficult for him not to boast!

韩佳 你刚到啊

Han Jia, you’ve just got here?

不是啊 来半天了

Right, for quite a long while.

一直等你呢

And I’ve been waiting for you all

the time.

你等我干什么

Why are you waiting for me?

等你讲捷足先登啊

I’m waiting for your explanation

of “jie zu xian deng”.

刚才我已经给大家讲过了

秦朝末年

During the last days of the Qin Dynasty,

起义军的首领刘邦

Liu Bang, the leader of an

insurrectionary army,

推翻了秦朝的统治

overthrew the rule of the Qin Dynasty.

刘邦的手下有一员大将叫韩信

One of his senior generals is Han Xin,

他勇敢善战 立下了不少战功

who is brave and skillful in battle and

has won many military honors.

因此 刘邦封韩信为“齐王”

Thus, Liu Bang confers on him

the title of King of Qi.

有一天 韩信的谋士蒯通问他说

One day, Han Xin’s advisor Kuai

Tong asks him:

您觉得做小小的齐王有意思吗

“Do you think it meaningful to be

a petty King of Qi?”

依我看

“In my opinion,

您不如联合其他的力量

you’d better forge an alliance with

other forces

一起打败刘邦

to beat Liu Bang

您自己来做皇帝

and be the emperor yourself!”

嗨 这样不好

“Hey, this may be inappropriate!

他一直对我不错

He has always treated me well.

我怎么能做对不起他的事呢

How could I do something unfair to him?”

大王啊

“Your Excellency,

现在群雄争夺天下

At present, all feudal lords are

vying for the throne.

就像在登一座山

It’s just like climbing a mountain.

跑得快的人自然先到达顶峰

the one who runs the fastest will

naturally reach the peak first.

如果您能早下决心

If you make up your mind sooner,

一定会取得天下 当上皇帝

you’ll take the whole country and

be the emperor!”

你说得也有道理

“You sound reasonable.

可是我现在下不了决心

But I can’t make up my mind now.

唉

“Oh … “

不久 刘邦统一了天下

Soon Liu Bang unified the country

成为了皇帝

and becomes the emperor.

他对韩信的疑心也越来越重了

But he gets increasingly suspicious

of Han Xin,

后来 他听说韩信要谋反

Later he learns of Han Xin’s

attempted revolt.

就毫不犹豫地抓住韩信

Unhesitatingly he arrests Han Xin

把他给杀了

and kills him.

蒯通说得不错

“Kuai Tong’s advice was correct.

可惜我没有早一些动手啊

But unfortunately I didn’t act sooner!”

捷足先登

“Jie zu xian deng”

这则成语的意思是

is a set phrase meaning

脚步快捷者最先登上高峰

the nimble-footed will ascend the

peak first,

比喻行动快速

also used as a metaphor for a

swift action

能先人一步获得所求

to achieved success ahead of others.
