it is billed as an emerald and god-given

platinum beach.

The uncanny power of nature

把三角岛的石头雕刻成

has cut the stones on the island

各种形神俱备的动物石像

into various vivid statues of animals.

It’s no exaggeration to say that

this is a park of stone animals.

说起海龟

The mention of sea turtles

人们往往会想到那个大家伙

normally conjures up the image of

that huge, clumsy creature.

来到港口湾海龟自然保护区

But after visiting the bay’s sea turtle

nature reserve,

才知道

you’ll realize

原来幼龟是这样的小巧可爱

how cute and lovely these baby

sea turtles are.

港口湾自古以来就有一处

There has been a place in the bay

area since ancient times

海龟产卵繁殖的天然场所

where sea turtles lay eggs and let

them hatch naturally.

因此又被当地人称为海龟湾

For this reason, the place is also

known as the Sea Turtle Bay.

孔子是中国古代著名的

Confucius was a famous

思想家 教育家

thinker and educator in ancient China.

他20多岁起

In his early twenties,

就对天下大事非常关注

he began to take a great interest

in politics.

对治理国家的各种问题

He often made statements

也常发表一些见解

on various aspects of state administration.

但是他真正参与政治的时间

But he was truly involved in politics

只有四年多

for only a little more than four years.

因为统治者对他的态度

That was because of the rulers’

attitude toward him—

始终是若即若离

always keeping him at arm’s length

敬而远之

and staying at a respectful distance

from him.

于是后来

Thereafter,

他便带领他的弟子们开始了

together with his disciples,

he embarked

周游列国的政治游说

on a travel through various states

propagating his ideas.

孔子的学生子贡

Zigong, one of his students,

对孔子不去做官的行为

felt puzzled about Confucius’

感到很疑惑

decision not to take up any official post.

如果先生有一块无瑕的美玉

“If you had a piece of impeccable jade,

先生是用绢帛把它包起来

would you wrap it up in a piece

of silk cloth

放在箱子里珍藏呢

and keep it safely in a box

还是把它卖出去呢

or sell it to somebody?”

其实 子贡是拿这件事来比喻

In fact, Zigong asked the question

as a metaphor

孔子当时的状况

for suggesting that Confucius

希望能说服他去做官

should take up an official post.

孔子当然明白他的意思

Of course, Confucius understood

what he meant.

便说 当然要卖出去啊

He said: Of course, I would sell it!

可我正在等那识货的买主啊

But I’d have to wait for a real connoisseur!”

原来孔子是在

Actually Confucius was

等待赏识自己的人来请他

waiting for someone who really

appreciated his talent

他才会出来效力啊

before he could render his service.

and Culture University.

看上去文质彬彬的他

He appears well-mannered

and soft-spoken.

最大的爱好当然是读书了

His biggest hobby is of course reading.
