Beijing Olympic – Hong Kong Olympic Village prepared to welcome Equestrian teams

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Lam Woon-kwong, chairman of the Hong Kong Olympic Equestrian Association, said Hong Kong Olympic Village will be put into operation at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, July 26, as horses participating in the Olympic Equestrian events begin to arrive in Hong Kong.

Since the British equestrian team has already arrived in the Special Administrative Region, Lam believes they will be the first team to enter the Village.

Lam estimates that there will be around 70 people in each team, including horse owners, veterinarians and those in charge of grooming and caring for the horses.

Horses participating in the Olympics from Britain, the United States and Germany, among other countries, will arrive in Hong Kong at different time on Saturday. Between July 26 and August 15, 21 flights will be used to transport horses to Hong Kong. The busiest day will be July 31, when 38 horses are due to arrive. One flight will carry 24 horses.

Olympic Equestrian events begin on August 9 and conclude August 21 in Hong Kong.
