  Learn Chinese the fun way.

  It’s much easier to remember.

We are pleased to see you all again.

Do you think the residential area

  here pretty good?

  But you’d definitely not know

it is actually a village of Qiqihar.

  When I just came here,

I didn’t expect it to be a village.

  What is its name?

  The Xing 14th Village.

  I didn’t expect a village could be

  built so beautifully.

  It’s beyond your expectations, eh?

This village was built like a garden.

Zhè zuò cūnzhuāng xiūjiàn de xiàng huāyuán yíyàng.

This village is built like a garden.

Han Jia, who are living in these villas?

  They are ordinary villagers.

Why are the people so rich?

  Oh, it’s a long story.

Some 40 years ago, here …

Han Jia, can you make your long

  story short?

  Yes, okay.

You see this is already morning time,

but you hardly see anyone in the village.

  Yes, indeed.

  Where are the villagers?

  Are they in the fields?

No. Now it’s time to work.

All villagers have gone to work.

Gone to work? Where are they working?

  At the village factories.

The 14th Village has its own factories.

  With good incomes,

people here are certainly very rich.

  Oh, I see.

If only we could go visit some local

homes to see how their life is.

  Let’s try our luck.

  Okay.

  Anybody home?

Hi. May we visit your home?

  Sure. Come in, please.

  Thank you.

  The house decorated pretty well,

indeed “chuang ming ji jing” (bright

  windows and clean tables).

  What “ji jing”?

  ”chuang ming ji jing”.

  ”ji” refers to small tables/desks.

”chuang ming ji jing” means that

  all windows

are bright and tables are clean.

”chuang ming ji jing”, is an idiom

  often used

to describe the tidiness and cleanliness

  of someone’s home.

”chuang ming ji jing”, literally the windows

are bright and the table is clear,

is a Chines idiom which is used to describe

a room being very neat and tidy.

  ”chuang ming ji jing”.

For example, this home is very

  tidy and clean.

Zhè hù rénjiā jiā li chuāng míng jī jìng.

This house is spic and span.

  Daniel, what do you think?

Do you think our visit to this rural area

  is a very unusual experience?

Why I knew nothing about it before?

Fresh, isn’t it? Then I’ll take you

  to see

if there are other “xin xian”

  (fresh) things.

There can’t be any other “xin xian”

  things here.

Daniel, come on and have a taste.

  Are they cherries?

It’s inappropriate to pick someone else’s

  cherries without permission.

You’d better take me to see

  something fresh.

  But aren’t these cherries fresh?

Oh, you mean these fresh cherries.

I thought you were referring to

  something new.

Well, the adjective “xin xian” here

can be used to describe newly produced

  fresh food.

It can also be used to describe

  things that have

  just emerged and remained new.

”xin xian”, first tone, neutral tone,

  可以形容刚刚生产出来,没有变质的食品;

  apart from meaning fresh

can also mean novel and strange.

  ”xin xian”.

For example, PCs and the Internet

  have been used

  extensively. They are no longer

  regarded as something new.

  Exactly.

  Another example, these cherries

  are very fresh.

  Come on, Daniel. Taste one.

  Zhèxiē yīngtáo hěn xīnxiān.

The cherries here are very fresh.

  Hey, Daniel, there are also

  cucumbers here.

Han Jia, we’d better stop doing this.

We shouldn’t always pick others’ fruit.

  Oh, it doesn’t matter.

  Here at Yuanyiyuan,

all visitors are allowed to pick

  the fruit and vegetables here.

What? Why didn’t you say so earlier?

  They are so tantalizing.

  Have a bite.

The cucumber hasn’t been washed yet,

how can we eat it like that?

  You may not know

all the fruit and vegetables produced here

are free of chemicals and pollutants.

Fruit here can be eaten directly.

  Have a taste.

Oh, I have no worries now.

  I’ll help myself.

  Oh, it tastes delicious.

Daniel, we’ve been here for quite

  a long time.

  How about a lunch

  cooked by ourselves here?

Good. I’ll select the freshest vegetables.

  Let’s go.

Come here and look at these

  lovely vegetables.

  There are pumpkins, cucumbers,

  eggplants,

  green peppers, tomatoes …

  Han Jia, you’d better stop

  talking like that.

The more you say, the covetous I am.

  We’d better start preparing the

  meal now.

Okay, I am going to prepare the food.

  What about me?

You? You just enjoy the Feast for the Eyes.

The Xing No. 14 Village is dubbed as

the No,1 Village of Heilongjiang Province,

due to its affluence and beautiful scenery.

It lies on a vast tranquil fertile flatland.

  Decorated with pines and flowers,

there are rows upon rows of posh villas,

all of which are the homes of local farmers.

They are proud of their efforts for a new life.

  Okay, the meal is ready.

  Mm, it smells so good.

I didn’t expect to experience so many

  interesting things here in the

  countryside here.

  Indeed. So I suggest,

if you have the time, you’d better

  come here often.

  Sure, I will.

Just for the fresh and succulent

vegetables here, I will surely come.

Oh, did you forget to prepare a

  uestion for today?

Yeah. Today’s question is as follows.
