　　”da wo er”, in Daur, means “pioneers”.

　　大牛：韩佳，我不太清楚缩影是什么意思。

　　Han Jia ,I am not quite clear about

　　the meaning “suo ying”.

　　韩佳：缩影就是指可以代表

　　”suo ying” means a person or a thing which

　　同一类的、具体而微的人或事物，

　　shows, on a small scale, a quality or a type,

　　也就是指缩小而凝聚的形象。

　　or a reduced but condensed form of something.

　　大牛：哦，我明白了。

　　Oh, now I am clear.

　　缩读一声，影读三声，具体而微的人或事物。

　　”suo ying”, first tone, third tone, means

　　a depiction or a miniature.

　　缩影。

　　”suo ying”.

　　韩佳：这是达斡尔语。

　　It’s Daur.

　　大牛：那怎么不用达斡尔文写呢？

　　Why it’s not written in Daur?

　　韩佳：对了，忘了告诉你了，

　　这达斡尔族只有自己的语言，

　　although the Daur people have

　　their own language,

　　而没有自己的文字。

　　they don’t a written language of their own.

　　所以只能用汉字来表示了。

　　So they have to use Chinese

　　characters instead.

　　I really don’t know what “ha ren

　　韩佳：那当然了。这里是正房的西屋。

　　Of course. It is the western room

　　of the central house.

　　是专门用来接待贵客的。

　　It is used specially for receiving guests.

　　嘉宾：对。我们达斡尔族就是以西为贵。

　　According to our Daur customs, a western

　　position is more worthy of respect.

　　所以在西面开了一个这样的大窗子。

　　So we opened such a big window.

　　大牛：其实我听说满族

　　Actually, I learned that the

　　Manchu people

　　也是一个以西为贵的民族。

　　also consider the west more

　　respect-worthy.

　　韩佳：嗯。因为达斡尔族是北方民族，

　　Right. As the Daurs are a northern

　　minority people,

　　所以他在很多传统习俗上

　　they have many customs

　　跟满族蒙古族都有相似之处。
