所以当地人就约定俗成地管它叫大召。
So local people are accustomed to calling
it “da zhao” (“zhao pronounced in 1st tone).

So, it should be Dazhao.
那它也是一座寺庙吧？

明清时期藏传佛教传入内蒙古，

All of a sudden, many lamaseries
emerged in Hohhot.
所以人们也管呼和浩特叫召城。
That’s why people also call Hohhot
Zhaocheng (the City of Lamaseries).
